Birdsall Services Group (BSG) was selected by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders to provide professional engineering services for the improvements of New Market Road (C.R. 665), from Conrail to Washington Avenue (C.R. 529) in Piscataway and Dunellen, NJ.

The original curbs and sidewalks along New Market Road were not conti-nuous, and one of BSG's tasks was to provide such features along the en-tire length of the project on both sides of the road. BSG evaluated the various impacts on the trees and grading and right of way associated with the potential construction of the sidewalk, and identified potential means for minimizing impacts to existing features.

Other requirements included structural modifications on an existing bridge and various environmental approvals and permits.

In addition, drainage improvements were incorporated into the roadway improvements.
